What Should I Expect During A Thai Massage Therapy Session?

Thai massage therapy is a holistic approach to a greater sense of well-being and improved overall health. It is a part of traditional Thai medicine and it is something that can help with the free flow of energy through the body, when it is practiced in the traditional sense. Many individuals who are considering a Thai massage therapy session are concerned about what takes place. Here is what you can expect during your Thai massage therapy session.

In most cases, traditional Thai massage therapy takes place on the floor. There is no oil that is used, as is the case in many other forms of traditional massage, so you will be fully dressed during the time that the massage takes place. It is important for you to wear comfortable clothing, however, such as yoga pants, pajamas or other loose-fitting clothing. At times, there may also be traditional clothing that is provided before the massage takes place.

A thin mattress will be placed on the floor which will allow for the mobility and comfort that is necessary during the session. Your practitioner will use various body parts, including the knees, elbows, hands, thumbs and feet to stimulate acupressure points in the body. In addition, stretching and opening of the joints will be practiced, which is similar to getting into yoga positions but without the work necessary in doing so.

Typically, a Thai massage therapy session will last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. You can expect to leave the session relaxed, stress-free and with a greater range of mobility.[/fusion_builder_column_inner]
